Mary Motl

Mary Motl, age 81, of Fosston, MN passed away on Saturday, January 8th, surrounded by family at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery - Hansville, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, January 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and also for one hour prior to the service. Mary Bernice Baustian was born on August 23, 1929 in Page, ND, daughter of John and Theresa Baustian. She graduated from Fosston High School. Mary was united in marriage to Glenn Marvel Curfman on June 26, 1948. Glenn and Mary farmed east of Lengby until Glenn's death in 1967. Eight children were born to this union. Mary married Everett Motl and they resided in the Thief River Falls, MN area. They returned to Fosston, MN where Mary owned and operated The Little Cafe for several years. Mary and Everett moved to Fisher, MN where she owned and operated the Fisher Cafe. Mary returned to Fosston where she owned and operated Mary's Corner Closet until she retired. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also involved with many activities at the Embassy Center. Mary enjoyed spending time with her large family, and especially enjoyed family reunions where she could visit with extended family. Mary enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, wagon train rides, crocheting and playing scrabble with her entire family. Mary taught the art of donut making to her grandchildren. On Saturday, January 8, 2011 Mary passed away, surrounded by family at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND at the age of 81 years. Survivors include her children Alice (Beans) Wander, Waubun, MN, Tim (Donna) Curfman, Alexandria, MN, Ted (Jan) Curfman, Thief River Falls, MN, Theresa (Marvin) Stark, Green River, WY, Sharol (Rick) Mason, Verndale, MN, Paul (Deb) Curfman, Fosston, MN, Evelyn (Maurus) Karboviak, Finley, ND, and Audrey (Rick) Simmons, Erskine, MN. Mary is also survived by three brothers, Edward, Leo and Jon Baustian, and one sister, Betty Leibnitz. In addition, Mary is survived by 40 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands Glenn and Everett, parents John and Theresa Baustian, her sister, Evelyn Baustian (Sister Karen), one grandchild, Dustin Simmons, and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers include Bruce Bursheim, Mike Curfman, Danny Curfman Jonathan Oak, Joey McQuiston, Jason Curfman, Rick Karboviak, and David Simmons. All remaining grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
