Marvin Wikstrand, age 82, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 in Minneapolis. A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20th, at Salem Lutheran Cemetery (in town), McIntosh with Jeanne Rains officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the cemetery. Marvin Duane Wikstrand was born on May 20, 1938 in Fosston, MN. to parents Victor and Annie (Nesseth) Wikstrand. He was baptized at Landstad Lutheran Church, Fosston, Mn. and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Salem Lutheran Church, McIntosh, Mn.
He grew up walking over a mile through the fields and snow to attend Footlake Country School in rural McIntosh until the 4th grade. He then went to town school in McIntosh and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1956. After graduation Marvin lived in Grand Forks, ND. While in Grand Forks, he did custom combining with his best friend Ronnie, worked at Lockwood Graders, and was a foreman on the Missile Sites. Marvin returned to McIntosh in the spring of 1962. Marvin married the love of his life, Janis, on July 20, 1967. Together they had one daughter, Wendy but to this union Marvin gained three children, Pam, Penny, and Duane.Marvin attended Wadena Technical College in 1969 for telephone communications and went on to work for Jerry Campbell, a private telephone contractor. After retirement Marvin did some farming for Punky and Lois Ostenna.
Marvin enjoyed having his family around, sports, yard work and having a big garden. He will be remembered for his love of white cars, talking sports with his grandsons, and found pure enjoyment from visits with his great grandchildren. Through all the years, Marvin continued to stay in touch with his lifelong friend, Ronnie, of 75 years with frequent phone calls and many laughs.
Marvin moved to McIntosh Senior Living in September 2017 where his wife Janis would spend nearly every day with him. Marvin passed away on December 4th, 2020 from complications from COVID 19 in Minneapolis, Mn.
Marvin is survived and missed by his wife of 53 years, Janis; daughters Wendy (Thomas) Reitmeier of Leavenworth, KS; Pam (Steven) Hopperstad of Red Lake Falls, MN; Son Webb Duane Fullmer Jr. of Columbia, SC; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; several great grandchildren; sister Alice Hogenson of Fargo, ND; five nieces; and three nephews.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, his uncles, the Nesseth Brothers; brother in-law Marvin Klemmetson; daughter Penny Magnell; and best friends Ronnie and Connie Norling.Due to pandemic restrictions, no service will be held at this time.
