Marvin Sistad, age 95, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday (February 9th) at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 14th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Valle Lutheran Cemetery, Grygla, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (February 13th) and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday, all at Hope Lutheran Church. Messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Marvin Curtis Sistad was born October 2, 1913 to Joel and Mina (Bye) Sistad in Chaseburg, WI. At an early age they moved to Grygla, MN where he was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith at Valle Lutheran Church. He attended the Sandsmark rural public school. At the age of 16 he went to work in the beet and potato fields around Nielsville, MN and North Dakota. That is where he met his wife Alice Waale. They were married in Nielsville on November 19, 1933.Marvin farmed at Nielsville, Grygla and Fosston, MN. He retired from farming in 1975 and he and his wife built their new home south of Maple Lake. While living there he did some carpentry work and worked at the Oak Lake Rest Area at Erskine, MN. In 2005 they moved to the Summerfield Apartments in Fosston. In 2007 he entered First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Over the years Marvin served on many various boards including school, church and community boards.On Monday, February 9, 2009 Marvin passed away at First Care Nursing Home at the age of 95 years, four months and seven days.Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Alice of Fosston; eight children, Marlyn (Gloria) of Grygla, Gene (Kay) of Fosston, Dennis (Ilene) of Fosston, Wanda (Owen) Fonken of Coon Rapids, MN, Roger (Dianne) Iron, MN, Richard (Karlyn) of Fosston, Gary (Linda) of Ulen, MN and Keith (Ruby) of Fosston; 26 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Bjorge of Buxton, ND, Alma Foss of Mentor, MN and Adeline Sletten of Thief River Falls, MN; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Sistad and Lottie Sistad both of Grygla; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wayne; and brothers, Palmer, James, Arvid and Stewart.Blessed be his memory.
