Martha Maruska, age 88, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (April 30th) at Midway Care Center in Fosston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (May 3rd) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Bellevue, Washington at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. Sympathy messages may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Martha Ann Straub was born February 6, 1920 in Beaulieu, Minnesota to parents Carl and Mary (Frolick) Straub. At the age of one she moved with her family to the Pine Bend area, south of Lengby, Minnesota. She attended Pine Bend School. She later moved to Waubun, Minnesota and worked at the Waubun Hills Cattle Farm and Martha Chromy's Café in Waubun. In 1942 Martha moved to Kirkland, Washington and worked as a welder's helper at the Kirkland Ship Yards.On October 5, 1943, Martha married Jim Maruska at Island Lake Catholic Church. They then went back out to Kirkland and lived there for fifty plus years. Martha worked and retired from the Ben Franklin Store as a sales clerk. Since 2000, she has lived in Fosston, Minnesota with her daughter and family.Martha was a charter member of the Eagles Club in Kirkland. She and Jim loved to camp and fish.Martha passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Midway Care Center in Fosston, at the age of 88 years.Survivors include one son, Gary (Colleen) Maruska of Tacoma, WA; one daughter, Marge (David) Siedschlag of Fosston, MN; 6 grandsons, Aaron (Katie) Maruska of Tacoma, WA, Patrick Maruska of Auburn, WA, Ron (Kari) Siedschlag of Hawley, MN, Jeff Siedschlag of Bemidji, MN, Steven Siedschlag of Roseau, MN, and Brian Siedschlag of Grey Eagle, MN; two granddaughters, Rachel Maruska of Auburn, WA, and Tammie (Joe) Doebler of Warroad, MN; three great granddaughters, Cassie and Mariah Siedschlag of Hawley, MN and Cassidy Maruska of Tacoma, WA; two sisters-in-law, Marie Straub of Lengby, MN and Corrine Maruska Airy of Sun City, AZ; one brother-in-law, George (Lillian) Maruska of Detroit Lakes, MN; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and seven sisters.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 911 Kirkland Eastside Medics or the charity of your choice.
