Marian Farnworth, age 88, of Gully, MN and Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday, January 3rd, at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Jane Ekholm officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fosston, at a later date. Family will greet friends for a half hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Marian Marlean Silvey was born on September 9, 1933, in Missouri to parents Nona and Vera (Peterson) Silvey. She grew up and graduated from high school in Richfield, Idaho.
She lived in Hawthorne, Nevada where she owned and operated a several businesses as well as being a change girl at a local casino. In 1972, she moved to Clearbrook, Minnesota where she raised Angus beef cattle with the help of her son, Rodney. She was a great cattle woman and was active in the Cattleman’s Association. She retired from ranching in 1996.
Her son, Rodney, was killed in an automobile accident in 2001, at which time she took over the care of his young son (her grandson), Gus. They lived in Fosston until relocating near Gully. Many can remember Marian in the hallways at Fosston High School in her 80’s supporting Gus in all of his projects.
Marian loved to travel and did so extensively. She enjoyed playing cards (she always liked to win!); and she loved dogs and helping people.
She will be remembered as a very happy person, a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her son, Russell (Linda) Farnworth of Twin Falls, ID; daughter, RoseMary Smith-Gardner (Rick Forsberg) of Gully; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Crystal) Silvey of Wyoming; and one sister, Virginia Newberry of Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband and father of her children, Edwin Farnworth; and son, Rodney Farnworth.
