Marguerite (Bjerken) Holecek, age 60, of Laguna Beach, CA and formerly from Fosston, MN passed away on Wednesday, August 15th at the Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, CA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 23rd at 2:00 PM at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Robert Rains officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements.Marguerite Kay Bjerken was born December 3, 1946 at Bismarck, North Dakota to parents Maurice and Marie (Turner) Bjerken. In 1947 her parents moved to Fosston, Minnesota where she grew up and was very active in Girl Scouts and a member of the Kingo Lutheran Church. Marguerite graduated from Fosston High School in 1964 and attended Moorhead State University in Moorhead Minnesota where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and Sigma Alpha Eta. Sorority and received a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1968.While in college Marguerite met her future husband Ronald Holecek and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1968 at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston, Minnesota. They resided briefly in Fargo, North Dakota before moving to Seattle Washington where her husband attended graduate school at the University of Washington. She worked at the University and was a member of the University women's rowing team. In 1969 Marguerite accompanied her husband serving in the US Army, to Asbury Park, New Jersey and later to Worms, Germany where she briefly worked as a speech therapist at the Manheim American School. In 1973 they moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where Marguerite worked as an executive assistant to the manager of the International Market Place and subsequently founded a business, Importers Express, with a close friend of hers. While in Hawaii she obtained her private pilots license and was active in the 99's, an International Organization of Women Pilots founded by Amelia Earhart. An avid car enthusiast she was also active in the Sports Car Club of America and Porsche Club of America. In 1983 she and her husband moved to Laguna Beach, California where they have continued to reside.Marguerite loved animals, traveling and working in her yard and flower garden. In recent years she returned to her parent's home in Fosston during the summer months to tend her mother's flower garden and reunite with her family and friends.Marguerite passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California at the age of 60 years.She is survived by her husband, Ron in Laguna Beach, California and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Jo Bjerken and brothers Kinney Bjerken and Maurice J.(Jerry) Bjerken.
