Madeline Johnson, age 89, of rural Erskine, MN, passed away on Thursday (August 13th) at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (August 19th) at Union Lake Free Lutheran Church, rural Winger, MN with the Rev. Jerome Nikunen officiating. Interment will be in Lima Cemetery, rural Erskine at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Madeline was born on December 18, 1919 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Her parents were Fred and Alma (Barlund) Goodrie. She grew up with her Grandparents on the family farm south of Erskine, Minnesota in Garden Township and attended rural school in that area.Madeline was united in marriage to Albin Johnson on October 22, 1939. Following their marriage, they lived for a short time near Union Lake before returning to the family homestead where she lived out the rest of her life. Her husband, Albin, passed away on December 4, 1996.Madeline was a devoted member of Union Lake Free Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. Her family had been a member of Lima Church prior to its closing. She enjoyed quilting and helped make many quilts for the church's Fall Sale where she thrived on providing comic relief while passing out bidding items. Most of all, Madeline loved visiting with family and friends to whom she was an energetic joy and shining light.She passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at her home with her family at her side at the age of 89 years.Survivors include two grandchildren, Tammy Sandhu of Erskine; and Kim Rose of Duluth, MN; and one great granddaughter, Cheyenne Munawar of Erskine.She was preceded in death by her parents; and two children, Carolyn Renee Rose and Larry Johnson.She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
