Lorraine Svedahl

Lorraine Svedahl, age 96, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday, August 29th, at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1st, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Jane Ekholm officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, August 31st, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be designated to Hope Lutheran Church or Essentia Hospice. Lorraine was born on August 1, 1922 in Shelly, Minnesota to parents Louis and Amanda Olson Bakken. She was baptized in Crookston by Rev. Aaker and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church on July 26, 1936. She attended the Moen country school in Rosebud Township and graduated from Fosston High School on May 31, 1940.Lorraine "Lolly" was united in marriage to Manferd Albin Svedahl on May 30, 1942 at Hope Lutheran Church by Rev. T.H. Megorden. They lived and raised their girls on their farm south of Fosston. In 1997, they moved into town. Manferd passed away on October 14, 2008. She lived at Prairie Pines Assisted Living in Fosston and was currently a resident at Essentia Health Living Center. Lorraine had various employers throughout her life, however, her main emphasis was being a good wife and mother and tending to the responsibilities of the farm.She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and a past member of the Sons of Norway Granlund Lodge of Fosston. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, word finds, reading, exercise, flower gardening, and most of all, being surrounded by family. Lorraine, at age 96, passed away the morning of August 29, 2018 with her family at her side.She is survived by two daughters, Janice Haugen of Fosston, and Sandra (Stan) Linsenmeyer of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren, Laurie (Dale) Stern, Lynnette (Ronnie Novacek) Renaud, Melissa (Eric) Murphy, Heather Linsenmeyer (Shawn Gallagher), Jeremy (Bonnie) Linsenmeyer, and Kirsten (Ben) Barker; great grandchildren, Alex (Kristin) Stern, Emily Stern, Brandy Renaud (Eric O'Leary), Amandy Murphy, Abby Murphy, Amaya Murphy, Andrew Hubbard, Joshua Hubbard, Blake Linsenmeyer, Casey Linsenmeyer, Marcus Barker and Lincoln Barker; great great grandchildren, Maverick Murphy, Aurora O'Leary, and Owen Okstad.She is also survived by one brother, Irving (Doria) Bakken; one sister, Linda (Harvey) Jorgenson; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Bakken and Linda Bakken. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Amanda Bakken; husband, Manferd; son-in-law, Lowell Haugen; grandson, Scott Haugen; three brothers, Marvin, Lowell, and Allen; and many other relatives.
