Lorraine Brekke

Lorraine Brekke, age 93, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Friday, December 23rd, at McIntosh Senior Living. Per Lorraine’s request, private family graveside services will be held. Lorraine Evelyn (Hanson) Brekke was born and baptized on April 5, 1929, in Badger Township, Polk County, Minnesota to Ole S. and Julia (Skiple) Hanson.

Lorraine attended Cisco country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Erskine High School in 1947. Lorraine was confirmed in Grace Lutheran Church of Erskine.

Lorraine was married to Stanley T. Brekke on June 21, 1947, at Grace Lutheran Church. They made their home in McIntosh where Lorraine worked at Garden Valley as a telephone operator.

In 1955, Stanley and Lorraine started their Standard Oil business. In 1957, Stanley and Lorraine started building their home on their farm north of McIntosh. In 1965, they built their new shop where Lorraine was bookkeeper.

In 1960 and again in 1962 they adopted two daughters and Lorraine dedicated herself to full-time motherhood.

Lorraine enjoyed cooking and baking, vegetable and flower gardening, sewing and embroidery.

Lorraine was an active member of Mount Carmel Lutheran as organist, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and active member of the Ladies Aid.

Lorraine enjoyed many vacations with the family to the Wisconsin Dells, Black Hills, Tetons and Yellowstone. In later years, she enjoyed several cruises in the Caribbean and trips to Florid with her daughter and family.

After her children graduated from school Lorraine worked for 20 years at Pioneer Memorial Home, retiring in 2000.

Lorraine spent her retirement enjoying her farmhouse, time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, traveling with her husband Stanley and her daughter Renae and family.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Troy) Palmer of McIntosh, MN, and Renae (Roy) Davis of Wanake, WI; five grandchildren, Matt Lalley, Clark (Jenna) Palmer, Craig (Lacy) Palmer, Paige Davis, and Robert Davis; three great grandchildren, Sawyer, Macy, and Eve; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, on November 17, 2009; her parents; granddaughter, Angela Lalley; great grandsons, Greyson and Eli Palmer; brothers, Ervin and Harold Hanson; nephews, Tim Hanson, David Hanson, and Paul Hanson; and niece Carol Hanson.
