Lonnie Walters, age 76, of Trail, MN, passed away on Saturday, November 6th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12th, at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Ragan officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team and arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.
Lonnie Rex Walters was born July 16, 1945, in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Fred and Francis (Schwartz) Walters. He spent his childhood in Jacksonville, Oregon and attended high school in Medford, Oregon.
Lonnie was drafted into the Army in 1969. He attended boot camp in Texas and was stationed in Vietnam for four years. After the war he returned to Oregon where he worked in the lumber industry and then road construction.
Lonnie met the love of his life, Katherine, in Klamath Falls and they married in 1983. They made their home in Medford, Oregon. In 1991, Lonnie and Kathy moved to Fosston, Minnesota and raised their family there. After a workplace injury, Lonnie retired. In 2006, Lonnie and Kathy moved to Trail, Minnesota where they still own a home. Lonnie had a garden here that he loved tending to.
Lonnie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting, and spent quality time with his wife and children.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy, brother Gary (Ginger) of Medford, and sister Barbara, of Twisp, WA. Stepson Stoney (Amanda) of Camden, TN, son Casey of Klamath Falls, OR, stepdaughter Brandi (Joseph) of Winston-Salem, NC, and daughter Lisa Marie (Dustin) of Erskine, MN. Lonnie has six grandchildren, Sarah, Sonny, Ben, Cyle, Jessa and Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred and sister Sandy.
