Linda Hemmingsen, age 64, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday (August 9th) at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (August 23rd) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (August 22nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Linda Jean Schofield was born on May 9, 1949 in Waukon, Iowa to parents Donald and Helen (McGeough) Schofield. She was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. Linda grew up in Monona and attended the St. Patrick Catholic School through the 8th grade. She then attended MFL High School where she graduated in 1967. Linda moved to Minneapolis where she attended a vocational school to become a medical lab tech. She worked her way through school as a live-in nanny. After obtaining her degree, Linda worked in Richfield. While in Minneapolis she met Allen.Linda was united in marriage to Allen Larry Hemmingsen on May 24, 1969 in Monona, Iowa. After their marriage Linda and Allen resided and raised their family in Fosston. Linda held various jobs throughout the years including being her husband's right hand assistant; typing up estimates for his company; Hemmingsen Masonary. The majority of her career was spent working for Pine to Prairie Home Health Care/Cornerstone; where Linda worked as a Secretary, Home Health Aide and Personal Assistant.Linda was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church. As a child Linda's father instilled the love of fishing in her with many hours spent fishing on the Mississippi River. She in turn, did the same for her three children. Linda loved cooking and baking. She enjoyed looking at cookbooks and was always trying new recipes. Over the years, Linda had a passion for decorating cakes and spent endless hours decorating cakes for family and friends. In addition, she enjoyed reading, search-a-word puzzles, playing cards and games. She was a tough scrabble opponent. Linda was a very handy person; there wasn't a thing she couldn't fix. If she didn't know how to fix it, she'd buy the book and figure it out. She had a tremendous love for people; young and old. She was a big hearted, loving, caring person who always put others needs in front of her own. To top it off she was a big hugger, too. Linda was a devoted Mom and Grandma who loved and lived for her family.Linda was a fighter and never gave up...not even in the end. After 8 long months in Minneapolis, Linda Jean Hemmingsen passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the University of Minnesota Fairview surrounded by her daughter and son in-law at the age of 64 years.Survivors include her daughter, Barb (Mark) Hagen of Fosston; son, Brad(Emily) Hemmingsen of Mesa, AZ; twin granddaughters, Camille Jean and Shelby Ann Hagen; one grandson, Parker Allen Hemmingsen; daughter in-law, Leah Hemmingsen. Also surviving are her siblings: Joyce(Mike) Hamann of Tripoli, Iowa; Jim(Ellen) Schofield of Phoenix, AZ; Dan Schofield of Monona, Iowa. Mother in-law, Irma Hemmingsen of Fosston. Father in-law, Delmont Hemmingsen of Erskine. Brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Dennis and his wife Jan of Fosston, Roger and his wife Bonnie of Fosston, Jerry and his wife Ardella of Trimont, MN and Tom and his wife Sheryl Vedbraaten of Crookston. Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, Donald and Helen Schofield, her husband, Allen, her son, Paul, brother in-law, Richard Plante, and an infant niece and nephew.
