LeRoy Olson, age 80, of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday (September 27th) at his home surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (October 3rd) at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Jon Marx officiating. Interment will be in Queen Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (October 2nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.LeRoy Edgar Olson was born on October 10, 1930 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Carl and Beatrice (Swanby) Olson. He grew up in Eden Township, rural Gully, Minnesota and attended the Sunnyside country school. He then attended the Crookston AC to study agriculture business for a time before returning home to help his dad on the farm. LeRoy was united in marriage to Leoney Larsen on July 1, 1950 at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston. After their marriage, they stayed on the home place, then moved to a farm near Fosston in 1952.In 1957, the family moved to Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. It was there that LeRoy worked as a foreman doing building construction and inspections. In 1959, LeRoy was offered a position as bookkeeper for the lumber yard in Callaway, Minnesota. The family then moved to Callaway, living there for several years until the company changed hands in 1966. At that time, they returned to the area and purchased a farm in Queen Township north of Fosston where they have since resided. It was on this farm that LeRoy had a dairy operation that eventually led to his current Angus beef herd. He also grew small grains, raised other livestock and did various carpentry work on the farm and in the area.He was a member of Bethel Assembly Church and helped on the building committee for the current church. He and Leoney were the first couple to be married in the original Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston (now the Fosston Library). He liked to hunt and spend time outdoors and was known as a hard worker. LeRoy passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at his home in rural Fosston surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 17 days.Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Leoney of Fosston; seven children, Dava Hruby-Olson of Gully, MN, David (Sandra) Olson of Gully, Bob Olson of Fosston, Rick (Betty) Olson of Colorado, Patty Anderson (John Knudson) of Ada, MN, Jeff Olson of McIntosh, MN, and Holly (Chad) Thorssen of Fosston; 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Allen Olson of Gully, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leon Olson; and sister, Bernice Haltli; and infant grandson, Michael Olson; sister-laws, Irene Olson; brother-in-law, Lester HaltliHonorary Pallbearers will be all of LeRoy's grandchildren and great grandchildrenActive Pallbearers will be Jamie Hruby, Matthew Hruby, Dennis Olson, Chad Olson, Brandon Olson, Cody Olson and Cole Anderson.
