Lenora Hanson

Lenora Hanson, age 89 of Fosston, MN and formerly from Wendell, MN passed away on Thursday, October 13th at Essentia Health First Care Living Center in Fosston. A memorial gathering and visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22nd at the Community Center in Wendell, followed by a brief graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Cemetery just north of Wendell. All are welcome to join us at the graveside service or remain at the Community Center where they can stay toasty warm. Then we will gather back at the Community Center for lunch, additional visiting and more hugs. Lenora Julia Jensen was born November 3, 1926 in Hawley, MN to parents George & Dorothy (Dauner) Jensen. She grew up on the farm with 5 brothers. They traded eggs and milk/cream for their flour, salt, coffee, etc. She attended the one room country school house through 8th grade, then graduated from Hitterdal High School. Lenora worked in Fargo & MPLS as a switchboard operator for 10 years. During the war she loved her job because it made her so happy every time she could tell a mother "We have located your son, I'll connect you now". Lenora married Victor Hanson of rural Fergus Falls on October 21, 1956, just before she turned 30. They had Randy & Vicki and then moved to Seattle where a few of Victor's relatives had already moved to. While Victor worked at Boeing, Lenora began her babysitting career. She loved babies! Then they had another set of their own, Ronald & Sherri. She was a wonderful mother & homemaker. In 1974 they moved to Wendell, MN. Lenora loved so dearly all the children she continued to babysit. She also worked for the Postal Service until she retired. She loved Wendell life and lived in the same home 38 1/2 years. Due to complications from dementia she moved to Fosston, MN in 2013 to be near her daughter, Vicki. Lenora had a strong Christian faith. She enjoyed sewing, especially quilts, and gardening flowers and vegetables. She loved children, hugs, reading, crossword puzzles and Scrabble. Also, of course, cooking & baking for her family. She was quite the doughnut maker. She loved taking care of her precious kids who all called her "Grandma Nora". She loved them so much, and all her nieces & nephews as if they were her own and thrived on their love for her. This was her greatest joy! So thank you all for treating her special. She is survived by her sons, Randy Hanson of Wendell and Ronald (Laurie) Hanson of Kimberly, WI; daughters, Vicki (Stacy) Weatherford of Fosston and Sherri Hanson of Moorhead; 4 grandchildren, Joshua (Erica) Weatherford of Moorhead, Rhiana (James) Gallagher of Fosston, Jessica and Zachary Hanson of Kimberly, WI; 3 great grandchildren, Axton, Zaiden & Haivan Weatherford; brother Stanley Jensen of Fergus Falls; and sister-in-law Luella Jensen of Wendell. She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Dorothy Jensen; her husband of 52 years, Victor Hanson; and brothers, Chester, Joseph, Ernest & Howard Jensen. Blessed be her memory
