LaVern Grimm

LaVern Grimm, age 93, from Brooks, MN passed away on Friday, July 4th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10th at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN with Rev. Dean Bell officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements.LaVern Albert Grimm was born on November 23, 1914 near Brooks, MN to parents William and Annie (Duesing) Grimm. He grew up and attended rural school near Brooks, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, MN.LaVern was united in marriage to Nora Irene Nelson on October 10, 1936 in McIntosh by Rev. C.F. Knauft. Following their marriage, they made their home and raised their family on a farm near Brooks. During his working years, LaVern farmed, had dairy cattle, worked at American Crystal Sugar Co. in East Grand Forks and mowed the roadsides of Highway 2 for the State of Minnesota for many years.After his wife, Nora passed away on April 9, 1995, LaVern continued to live on the farm until December 2005 when he moved to Cornerstone Residence in Fosston, MN. On March 17, 2008 he moved to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.LaVern enjoyed farming, his horses, camping and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He celebrated every year with his great grandchild, Rachael, the birth date that they shared, November 23rd.On Friday, July 4, 2008 LaVern Grimm passed away at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 11 days.Survivors include one daughter, Beverley (Melvin) Johnson of Brooks; one son, Larry (Erlyss) Grimm of Cannon Falls, MN; one granddaughter, Vickie Mandt and fiancé, Dallas Humphrey of East Gull Lake, MN; three grandsons, Jeffrey (Kathrine) Johnson of Inver Grove Heights, MN, William (Carmen) Grimm of Wanamingo, MN and Corey (Stephanie) Grimm of Elk River, MN; eight great grandchildren, Rachael (Rod) Olson of Mentor, MN, Leigh (Tisha) Mandt of Coon Rapids, MN, Arik and Andrew Johnson, Cora Grimm, and Ava, Wyatt and Weston Grimm; two great great grandchildren, Brianna Sandeen and Emily Olson; two sisters, Doris Nelson of Oklee, MN and Violet Ferden of McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nora; brother, Orville; sister, Evelyn Nelson; and great grandson, Lucas Mandt.
