Larry Johnson, age 69, of rural Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Friday (January 19th) at his home after a courageous six year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (January 23rd) at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Cross Lake Cemetery, Queen Township, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Trail V.F.W. Post #6426 and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.comLarry Johnson was born on July 20, 1937 in Fosston, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Alvina (Gudvangen) Johnson. He grew up in Queen Township, rural Fosston, went to the Lade Country School and graduated from Fosston High School in 1955. That same year he entered the United States Navy and trained in the Seabees as a heavy equipment operator. He was stationed in Illinois, California, Alaska, Japan and Guam. He received his honorable discharge in 1960.In 1962, he was united in marriage to Cleone Smith and they lived in Minneapolis. While there he attended welding school and worked at that until 1971. Since then he operated a dairy farm north of Fosston until his retirement in 1999. His interests were farming, antique machinery, and traveling. The traveling included much of the United States, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii.Larry passed away on Friday, January 19, 2007 at his home after a courageous six year battle with cancer at the age of 69 years, five months and 30 days.Survivors include his wife, Cleone of rural Fosston; two sisters, Elaine Westre of Brainerd, MN and Mariann (Jack) Enfield of Brainerd, MN; mother-in-law, Ruth Holman of Fosston; sisters-in-law, Lois Johnson of Ham Lake, MN, Darlene Novacek of East Grand Forks, MN and Shirley Smith of Angora, MN; brothers-in-law, Myrl (Ilene) Smith of McIntosh, MN, Franklin (Sharon) Smith of Monticello, MN and Francis (Marilyn) Smith of Bemidji, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Smith and Laverne Smith.Honorary Pallbearers will be Sharon Andrews and Wade Andrews, David and Diane Anderson, Todd Johnson, Tami and Justin Oestreich and all other family.Active Pallbearers will be Dan Johnson, Scott Johnson, Joe Enfield, Jack Enfield, Chuck Andrews and Mark Andrews.
