Kay Tangen

Kay Tangen, age 70, of Woodbury, MN, and formerly of Fosston, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (November 12th) in her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (November 16th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the start of the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the donors choice. Local arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Kay was born on May 3, 1943 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Telford and Lois (Quern) Lucken. She grew up in Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School in 1961. Following high school, she went to beautician school in Minneapolis then returned to Fosston where she worked as a beautician and as an aide in the Fosston School District.Kay was united in marriage to Steve Tangen on April 3, 1978. After their marriage, they lived in Fosston and Kay continued to work for the Fosston Schools. They moved to Farmington, Minnesota in 1985 and then to Grand Forks in 1989, working as a school paraprofessional in each location. In 2007, Kay and Steve moved to Leesburg, Virginia for four years until Steve's retirement when they moved to Woodbury, Minnesota.Kay was an accomplished knitter and quilter, sharing her gifts and talents with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her loved ones. Her grandchildren were the twinkle in her eyes and she loved them all so dearly.She was an amazing and beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. Kay's caring optimistic spirit touched everyone around her. Kay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 70 years.Kay is survived by her husband Steven Tangen of 35 years of marriage; children, Lisa (David) Svoboda of Somonauk, IL, Amy (Bradley) Hass of Woodbury, MN, Joshua Tangen of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Mariah Svoboda, Annalese Svoboda, Benjamin Svoboda, Jenna Svoboda, Isaac Hass and Kaylie Hass; her mother, Lois Tangen of Fosston; and siblings, Bruce Lucken, Charles (Anita) Lucken, Candace Harvey; nieces and nephews and many friends.Kay was preceded in death by her father Telford Lucken and sister, Janice Lucken.
