Kathleen Nelson

Kathleen "Kay" Nelson, age 77, resident of Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston, MN and formerly of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday (July 14th) at Riverview Hospital in Crookston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (July 19th) at Poplar Lake Lutheran Church, rural Fosston with the Rev. Robert Dennis officiating. Interment will be in Poplar Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Kathleen Ann Sinjem was born to Orlando and Emma (Blanchard) Sinjem on June 6, 1931 in Fosston, Mn. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Kay attended school in Fosston and was active in swimming, hockey and enjoyed playing the trombone in the Fosston High School band.On December 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Jerome Nelson. For over 50 years they resided on their farm, just east of Fosston, where they raised their six children.Kay and Jerome were also active members of Poplar Lake Lutheran church. Kay had over 30 years of service with the Fosston Hospital and Nursing Home where she prided herself as a Nursing Assistant. There are many with fond memories and gratitude of Kay's gentle care, drawing from her many years of dedicated experience.She is survived by her children, Jack Nelson, Stefanie (Larry) Roed, Gail (Bruce) Pearson, Jannae (Ron) Kowalczic, Kendlynn (Richard) Evje, and Forrest (Sue) Nelson, along with one sister, Mary Roysland. She was Blessed with 23 Grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was proceeded in death by her husband, Jerome, her parents, Ole and Emma, one sister, Patricia Sinjem, and one Granddaughter, Nicole Slyt.Pallbearers include her ten Grandsons: Christopher and Jason Nelson, Charlie and Tony Roed, Joshua Pearson, Jeremiah and Kevin Slyt, Wade and Matt Evje, and Levi Nelson.
