John Hagge

John Hagge, age 89, from Erskine and formerly from Fosston and Brooks, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the nursing home, and interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine. Hagge was born on July 8, 1922 to parents Claus and Bertha (Rusch) Hagge in Cumberland, Wisconsin. He was baptized, attended school, and lived with his family on a farm in the McKinley, Wisconsin area until the family moved to rural Brooks in the fall of 1933. He completed his education through the 8th grade at the Brooks School.John farmed his entire life in the Brooks and Nebish areas, and retired to rural Fosston, Minnesota. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, Minnesota.One of John's favorite pastimes in his retirement years was attending high school sports, especially girls' volleyball and basketball games in Fosston. He also enjoyed painting with watercolors, feeding and watching the wild birds, and sharing his numerous pictures and stories of family and friends.On Wednesday, December 28, 2011, John passed away at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine at the age of 89 years.John is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Art Hagge, Henry Hagge, George Hagge, Alfred Pagel, Edward Pagel, and Walter Pagel; and sisters, Lena Kline, Elsie Webster, Bertha Johnston, and Ida Pagel.
