John and Alice Haaven, ages 76 and 74, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Saturday (April 12th) at their home. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (April 17th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Humane Society.John Morris Haaven was born on February 24, 1932 in McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Magnus and Gertrude (Sannes) Haaven. He grew up in McIntosh and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1950. He entered the United States Army on October 15, 1952 and was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. Alice Mae Grove was born on December 19, 1933 in Lessor Township, rural McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Morris and Cora (Thompson) Grove. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural McIntosh. Alice went to grade school in McIntosh and graduated from Northwest Agricultural School in Crookston in 1951. John and Alice were united in marriage on January 10, 1953 while John was home on military leave. He received his honorable discharge on October 14, 1955 and returned to McIntosh where they farmed and raised their family. While John continued his work on the farm, Alice worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Mac Manor, as a teller at First National Bank in McIntosh for several years and at the Win-E-Mac High School library. Alice was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh and the McIntosh V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and quilt making and John enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.John and Alice passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at their home in McIntosh at the age of 76 and 74.Together they are survived by three children, Beth (David) Martin of Independence, MO, Becky Haaven of Raymore, MO, and Jim (Laura) Haaven of Murfreesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Kari (Tom) Brouse of Honolulu, HI, Zane (Tasha) Martin of Peculiar, MO, Nicholas Haaven and Jordan Haaven, both of Murfreesboro, TN; three great grandchildren, Khloe Martin, Tyler Brouse and Caleb Cobb.Also surviving are Alice's brothers, Clarence (Lynn) Grove of Williston, VT, Edward (Marilyn) Grove of Yorba Linda, CA, and LeRoy (Joy) Grove of Ojai, CA.; sister-in-law and special friend, Lavonne Moon of Flemington, NJ; one aunt, Ila Winterborne of Ventura, CA and one uncle, Arnold Grove. Multiple nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. They were preceded in death by their parents; Alice's infant sister, MaryAnn; her brother, Arthur Grove; and two of John's brothers, Orin Haaven and Robert Haaven.Honorary Pallbearers will be all of John and Alice's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
