Joe Hove, age 94, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (December 1st) at Essentia Health Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (December 6th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Brandsvold Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (December 5th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Joe Rueben Hove was born on July 14, 1916 to parents Ole and Lucy (Fjerstad) Hove in Queen Township. Joe was baptized and confirmed by Pastor K.O. Hildahl at Brandsvold church. Joe attended Sunnyside country school in Queen Township through the 8th grade. He worked for area neighbors and started farming with his mother and brother Otto until he was drafted in the fall of 1941. Joe served his country in Alaska for 22 months, served in the Mariana Islands, and Saipan in the anti-aircraft division. Joe was honorably discharged in December of 1945 after serving a total of 47 months. Joe bought the home farm in Queen Township from his mother in 1956. Joe was a member of the Tangen-Walstrom Post #114 in Fosston, served as Fosston Elevator board member, Queen Township constable.Joe married Henrietta Lute on June 7, 1975 and they farmed until moving to Fosston in 1990. Joe enjoyed working with cattle and his team of horses. After retirement, Joe helped his nephew Ken during the spring and fall field work until 1997. Joe enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends and neighbors.Joe entered the Fosston First Care Nursing Home in November of 2007.Surviving is one step-son, Jerry (Rogene) Rankert, and one step-daughter Brenda (Gary) Anderson of South Bend, IN; 5 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lynn Siverson of Fosston; Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta; his parents; his sisters, Sigrid (Lloyd) Whaley, Ruth (Ole) Underberg, Ella (Maurice) Hagemeister, Joanne (Henry) Olson, Stella (Lyle) Pitt, Ragna (Ray) Krogstad, Emma (Orlean) Swenson, Lillian Siverson; and brothers Otto (Myrtle) and Orvin (Roseann).Honorary Pallbearers: all friends and neighbors presentActive Pallbearers: Steve Burris, Chris Hove, Marc Hove, Wallace Olson, Walter Olson, Mike Affeldt, Wayne Hagemeister, and Todd Jevning.
