Joanne Anda

Joanne Anda, age 77, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Monday, July 23rd, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service on Saturday, July 28th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Joanne was born on August 5, 1940 in Fosston, MN. Her parents were Marvin and Ruth Bensen (Carver). Joanne grew up in Erskine, MN and graduated from Erskine High School in 1958. After High School, Joanne moved to Minneapolis with a few girl friends to find work. Joanne worked as a waitress for one (1) year before returning to Erskine in 1960. In 1961 she married Kenneth William Anda from Crookston, MN. They divorced in 1964 at which time Joanne and her children Michael Joe Anda (56) and Connie Jo Ostoj (Anda) (55) moved back to Erskine. Joanne was a single mom. She and her kids Mike and Connie moved to Moorhead, MN in 1968. She initially found work as a waitress. Later, she worked at the YMCA in Fargo, ND as a locker room attendant for ten (10) years, and then for the Hotline Crisis Center in Fargo as a caller intake operator where she had worked for many years. She also volunteered for Churches United for Homeless from the 1980's through 2004.Joanne moved back to Erskine in 2013. Joanne enjoyed listening to music, especially her many Country Western albums and she was an avid walker. She is survived by her son Michael (Colleen) Anda of Borup, MN; daughter Connie (Ronald) Ostoj from Rochester, MN; grandson William Ostoj from Des Moines, IA; and granddaughter Erica Ostoj from Rochester, MN; one brother, Larry Bensen of Erskine. Numerous cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents.
