Jerome "Jerry" Carlson, age 72, resident of Island Lake near Lengby, MN, and formerly of Grand Forks, ND, passed away on Thursday (October 9th) at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 15th) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Manny Sundaram presiding. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (October 14th) and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday with all visitation will at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He grew up on a farm near Battleview, ND with his three brothers. Jerry graduated from Columbus High School in 1960. After high school, he joined the North Dakota Air National Guard and attended North Dakota State University where he earned an mechanized agriculture degree. Jerry worked in the agricultural industry for many years and in 1971, joined the Farmer's Home Administration/Farm Service Agency where he served as District Director of the Northwest Minnesota District until his retirement in 2004.Jerry met and later married Eva Lynch on June 28, 1969 in Grand Forks, ND at Holy Family Catholic Church. Together they raised three sons; Paul, Aaron, and Eric. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his four grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, deer hunter and enjoyed traveling. Jerry and Eva took many trips throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. Jerry's faith was very important to him and in 1982, Jerry joined the Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN. In 2006, Jerry and Eva built their dream home on Island Lake, MN. Jerry enjoyed volunteering and spent endless hours serving others. He was very active in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Fosston, the Lion's Club, First Care Foundation, Lengby Improvement Club, and a volunteer for the Fosston hospital as well as several opportunities in the Island Lake and Lengby area. Jerry was a generous and caring man who will be missed dearly.On Thursday, October 9, 2014 Jerry passed away at his home on Island Lake at the age of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Olga Carlson, his step-father Helmer Kristianson, and his brother Duane Carlson.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Eva of Lengby, MN; his three sons, Paul (Rinske) of Den Haag, the Netherlands, Aaron (Andrea) of Moorhead, MN, and Eric (Erin) of Otsego, MN; his four grandchildren, Anthony, Steven, Nolan and Avery Carlson; his brothers, Kevin (Lorna) of Powers Lake, ND and Lowell (Pam) of Portland, ND; sister-in-law, Rachel Carlson of Battle Lake, MN; good friend, Ron Moen and numerous relatives and friends.
