Janis Grinolds

Janis Grinolds, age 73, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Sunday (April 17th) at home with family after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (May 21st) at Faith Lutheran Church in Palermo, ND with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery following the service. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine assisted the family with arrangements and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Janis was born March 2, 1938 to John and Jeanette (Lunden) McNalley of Stanley, North Dakota. Janis attended and graduated from Stanley Public School in 1956. In high school she was active in band and choir. She also was an avid horse rider riding in local parades. Janis was united in marriage to Donald E. Grinolds on June 2, 1957 at the Presbyterian Church of Stanley. Donald and Janis lived in many towns in three states during their marriage and had five sons.Janis was active in the church in each community often serving as soloist for weddings and funerals. She was well known for her beautiful soprano voice. Janis was also known as a great cook and seamstress often sewing clothes for herself and children.Being the mother of five boys she was called upon to be a Den mother in Cub Scouts more than once and in more than one town. Janis ran a day care in Grand Forks, North Dakota and worked as a TMA at the Johnson Rest Home of Erskine, Minnesota.Janis was preceded in death by her parents John and Jeanette; her brothers Delvin, Dean and John Arlin and her husband Donald.Janis will be greatly missed by her family. Janis is survived by her sons Del (Nancy) Grinolds of Erskine, MN, Donald (Hana) Grinolds of Tacoma, WA, Shawn (Sindhuja) Grinolds of Bismarck, ND, Kriss Grinolds of Bismarck, ND, and Erik Grinolds of Thief River Falls, MN. She is also survived by grandchildren Justin, Christina, Donald, Tyler, Erin and Arlin Grinolds; sister Staniz Perry of Lantzville, BC; sisters-in-law Amy and Eileen McNalley of Mandan and Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law Douglas (Vivian) Grinolds of Craig, CO; sisters-in-law Gladys Grinolds of Palermo, ND and Hazel Grinolds of Roseville, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
