Jane Olson

Jane Olson, age 92, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Monday, February 20^th, at Benedictine Living Community in New Brighton, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29^th, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Rene Mehlberg officiating. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday (April 29^th) at the church. Jane Rose (Hedman) Olson was born on September 4, 1930, to Otto and Hilda Sayre in Duluth, Minnesota. Jane was nine years old when she moved with her mother to McIntosh, Minnesota. She graduated from McIntosh High School in 1948.

She married Kermit Hedman on December 3, 1949. They had five children, Linda, Barbara, Vionne, Marilyn and Kurtis. In later years, Jane reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Gordon Olson, and they were married on June 26, 1998. Jane had many jobs in the surrounding area. Her last place of employment was at Palubicki’s grocery store in Fosston where she worked for 25 years.

Jane was active in her community, including being a member of the Auxiliary, Ladies Aid, Circle (through Our Savior’s Church), and sewing quilts for missions. Jane had many interests, including Knitting, sewing, crocheting, cooking, reading, and helping others in her community.

When she was no longer able to live independently she was a resident of Poplar Meadows and McIntosh Senior Living. In August of 2022, Jane moved to Coon Rapids to be closer to her daughter, Vionne. She resided at Select Senior Living (Coon Rapids) and Benedictine Living Community (New Brighton).

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hilda; her first husband, Kermit; her second husband, Gordon; and four children, Marilyn Peterson, Barbara Hedman, Linda Knudson, and Kurtis Hedman.

She is survived by her daughter, Vionne Ellingson (Dennis), stepdaughter, Val Getter (Larry), and stepson, Terry Olson; grandchildren, Miki Ellingboe (Jay), Joe Knudson (Beth), Jessica Hajicek (Rod), Brian Peterson (Vanessa), Derek Ellingson (Rachel), Grant Ellingson (Ashley), and Kaylah Emerson (Matt). 18 grandchildren and many, many friends.

Jane was a very caring, loving, helpful, and generous person. She love the Lord, her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be shared with the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
