A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5th, in the new gym at Fosston High School. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the high school gym. Please dress casual, baseball caps, funny tees and Bronco’s blue and orange recommended. Jamie (JL) Nesvold was born in Crookston, MN on August 19, 1975 and passed away surrounded by loved ones at HCMC in Minneapolis, MN on March 26, 2025. He went out in style in a blaze-orange Broncos hat and even managed the final generous act of donating his organs to save lives.

Although he lived in many places across the US, the majority of his life was spent in Fosston, MN and he lived in Farmington, MN near two of his children at the end of his life. He was married to Joanna (now Paavola) from 1996-2018, and the pair raised 4 children: Alyssa, Katrin, Jackson and Jalyn, all raised in Fosston. He also had two granddaughters who he absolutely adored: Rosie (11) and Ripley (1).

Jamie had many passions, including bacon, motorcycles, hair metal, art, writing, theater, the Denver Broncos, superheros, pop culture and all things 80s. In 2005 he appeared on a pop culture episode of the trivia show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” He was also a local superstar. He worked at the Fosston radio station for nearly 20 years, and he loved writing fun ads, recording Fosston’s annual Christmas program, featuring locals at the county fair, and incorporating his kids wherever possible. Also passionate about youth, he volunteered as a youth leader at his church for several years, wrote a children's book, and donated to local teachers whenever he could.

Another large part of his life was his health. He received his first major diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 10. That would lead to a slew of health issues and nonstop doctor and hospital visits later in life, which he combated with humor and by connecting with his nurses. Even through all this, he finished a Bachelor's degree through Bemidji State University in 2023, which he had started a decade earlier before his health took a turn.

Jamie will be remembered for his humor, generosity and the love he had for those around him. He found great joy in anonymously paying for meals, sneaking money into the cars of people who gave him rides, and sneaking gift cards into his PCA’s purse to thank her. He was always one to love people deeply, and though he couldn't say it, he made you feel it.

He is survived by his four children Alyssa Nesvold, Katrin (Mac) Jacobsen, Jackson Nesvold and Jalyn Nesvold, two grandchildren Rosie and Ripley, mom June Heideman Nesvold, dad Lyle Nesvold, brothers Jeff Nesvold, Jeremy Nesvold and Travis (Nadine) Nesvold, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and cousin Danny Nesvold.
