James Wallace Roue was born September 25, 1943, the fourth son of Clifford and Eunice Roue. He grew up and attended school at Lengby and Fosston, graduating from Fosston High School in 1961.Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1961, and served his country for more than four years, including deployment with the Seventh Fleet in the waters off Vietnam, participating in the build up of forces in that conflict. He served as an Electrician's Mate, attaining the rank of E-5 prior to his discharge in 1967.On July 18, 1962, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann Larson. Together they raised their three children, Carrie Ann, Terri Lee, and James Jay. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim returned to Fosston, and worked for a time as an electrician for Halvorson's and Corky Leikness. He moved to the Iron Range and worked for fifteen years for Erie Mining. Later, he moved to Bagley and purchased Hank Haug's wildlife museum. During this time, he also raised wolves, sold and serviced Lindsay water conditioners, and earned his real estate license. He then worked for twenty years for Northwoods near Bemidji. After his retirement from Northwoods, Jim spent one fall on the custom combining run. Although he had done volunteer work most of his life, retirement gave him the opportunity to devote much more time to his volunteering efforts. He served as co-pastor for the Lengby Baptist Church, served as a Hospice volunteer, worked for the local group home for a time, and served as sexton at Rosehill Cemetery. Jim worked as night auditor at the Super 8, but diverted his wages to the last great passion in his life, the Loaves and Fishes Food Shelf. His countless hours of selfless work kept the Loaves and Fishes well stocked and able to serve the needs of an ever increasing clientele when other food shelves in the area were running out of food. When Jim was recognized with the 2008 Fosston Person of the Year Award, his humble nature led him to comment that he didn't do these things for awards or glory, his reward was laid up for him in heaven.Jim had wonderful artistic talents, and displayed them in many and varied ways, creating unique woodwork projects, cartoons and illustrations, including some that appeared in the Minneapolis Tribune. He inherited his dad's passion for the outdoors, and cherished the time he was able to spend teaching his grandchildren to hunt.Jim Roue went to be with the Lord and Savior he served on December 5, 2009.
