James Roberts, age 81, resident of Island Lake near Lengby, MN, passed away on Sunday, July 1st, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Address and directions to the cabin are also posted at www.carlinfuneral.com.James Walter Roberts was born on March 13, 1937 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, son of John R. Roberts and Alice L. Carroll. Jim graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture (a residential high school) in Crookston, Minnesota in 1955. He went in to the United States Marine Corps and later attended Aaker's Business College. His work in the plastics industry took him to Atlanta, California, Dallas, and Portland OR. He retired to Island Lake in 1998 to fish, woodwork, and enjoy life.He leaves behind his family Stacy and Rob Schneider of Minnetonka, MN and their son Griffin. Jeff and Nicki McGuire of St. Louis, MO and their children Emma and Aiden. Kelly and Jamie McGuire of Portland, OR and their children Tanner and Brandon. His children and grandchildren will miss him very much.Jim was preceded in death by his parents (including stepmother Joyce Peterson Roberts) and his brother George. He is survived by older brother Don (Betty) Roberts, and younger brothers Jack (Paulette) and Bert (Judy). He has two surviving sisters Patty (John) Voiss and Alice Lovin. Many nieces and nephews thought so highly of him.Jim's daughter Stacy wishes to thank Bert and Judy Roberts for being there for her dad. He was able to stay at home through to the end because of their dedication and care.
