James Hoel, age 75, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (August 4th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Broderheim Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broderheim Cemetery Association in memory of James.James Andrew Hoel was born on December 5, 1936 in the Erskine hospital, Badger Township, Minnesota. He was the son of Martin B. and Anna O. (Ruth) Hoel. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church of Erskine.He graduated from the Erskine High School in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force and served four years. He worked for Sears in Minneapolis for many years and briefly with Marvin Windows in Warroad, Minnesota before retiring to the family homestead several years ago. He very much enjoyed his retirement years on the farm.He enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature. He did several lengthy canoe trips some in the Canadian high arctic. These trips included Lake St. Joseph, Ontario; Fond du lac River, God's River, Cochran River, Hanbury and Thelon River, Back River, Dubawnt River, and the Kazan River. He has also enjoyed several trips to the BWCAW and Stormy Lake.He is survived by brothers, Gordon (Donna) of Cedar, MN, and Dennis (Susan) of Duluth. Nieces, Tracey, Allison, and Megan and nephews, Eric and Chad. Also several grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and his faithful dog, Siggy.He was preceded in death by his parents.Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends at Fuel-N-Things and his canoeing friends.Active Pallbearers will be Dennis Nicolayson, Randy Lee, Steve Jacobson, Brenda Peterson, Chad Hoel, Eric Hoel and Dave Benson.
