James Godtland, age 86, from Lengby, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday (October 9th) at his home in Lengby. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (October 13th) at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with Scott Morey officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (October 12th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby and the Gonvick American Legion Post #304 of Gonvick, MN. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and an online guestbook is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.James Adolph Godtland was born on November 6, 1920 in Gonvick, Minnesota to parents Peter and Nora (Herberg) Godtland. He was baptized at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick on February 13, 1921. He attended Gonvick Public School through the eighth grade. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Fosston on November 8, 1936.James was a member of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) from 1939 to 1940. In July of 1942 he entered the United States Army Air Force and served in the Pacific Theatre. He received his honorable discharge on December 31, 1945.On March 3, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mavis Milsten at East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They farmed for several years and James worked on road construction, retiring from the Cement Mason's Union in the fall of 1984.Jim enjoyed visiting-always ready for conversation, teasing, and card playing. Each Sunday he looked forward to a visit from his great grandchildren. He was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby and a long-standing member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.James passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at his home at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 3 days. He is survived by three sons, Gary (Wendy) of Fosston, MN, Pete (Bonny) of Woodbury, MN, and Lloyd (Linda) of Gully, MN; one daughter, Sandy (Rick) Steile of Silver Lake, MN; grandchildren, Gary Jr., Staci, Abbie, Suzanne, Samantha, Michael, Matthew, Paul, Jim, Michelle, Kristopher, Tiana, Nicholle, Melissa and Jennifer; 18 great grandchildren; one brother, Dean (Diane) Godtland of Gonvick, MN; one sister, Tone Schmit of Gully, MN; two brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Milsten of Fridley, MN and Don Milsten of Littleton, CO; one sister-in-law, Lucille Godtland of Gully, MN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis in 1998; his parents; brothers, Carl, Roy, Edwin, Arne, Irvin, Vernon, and one infant brother; two sisters, Magel and Esther; and grandson, Jon.
