Irvin Thoreson

Irvin Thoreson, age 89, from Gully, MN passed away on Monday, June 3rd at the Good Samaritan Home in Clearbrook, MN. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 10th at 2:00 PM at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully with Dawn Hanson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday, and Interment will be at Lund Lutheran Cemetery at Gully. A reception will follow immediately after the services. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Irvin Bernal Thoreson was born at home in rural Trail, MN, to parents Stephen and Hilda (Steile)Thoreson, on February 10, 1924.  Shortly after, his family moved to a farm in rural Gully, MN, where he grew up. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Lund Lutheran Church, Gully, MN.  Irvin  attended country school near his home.  As a young man, he worked away from home on farms in Montana.In 1944 Irvin married Geraldine Trogstad, and together they worked farming the home place, enjoying country living, and  raised two daughters, Sonja and Judy.He retired from farming and moved into Gully, MN in 1979, but continued to enjoy conversation with other farmers in the area. He enjoyed his daily walks overlooking the countryside, gardening, playing cards, playing his accordion, dancing, singing with his children and grandchildren, listening to music, and participating in church functions.  He also enjoyed reminiscing about the "Old Times" with his family and friends.Later in life during the winter months, Irvin enjoyed spending time in a warmer climate at McAllen, TX and Arizona.On June 3, 2013 Irvin passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Home in Clearbrook, MN at the age of 89 years, as a result of Shingles.He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Jerry) Haugen, Brea, CA; grandsons, Jason Haugen, Brea, CA and Scott (Lisa) Brovold, Omaha, NE; granddaughters, JeNelle Haugen, Brea, CA and Stacy (Gary) Nordlund, Clearbrook, MN;  nine great grandchildren, and two great great granddaughters; and a niece, Paula  (Don) Adamson and their four children, Thief River Falls, MN. Preceding him in death were his parents, Stephen and Hilda; daughter, Sonja Brovold; sister, Adeline; brother in law, Harold Stroble; and step father, Gerald Hangaard.Blessed be his memory.
