Ione Anderson

Ione Anderson, age 93, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, August 5th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10th, at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor David Johnson and Pastor Seth Johnson officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bagley, MN. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Ione Avonell Sander was born April 20, 1925 to parents Carl and Ethel (Lindberg) Sander of Fosston, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm and attended Lade country school. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1943.After high school she lived and worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was in Minneapolis when World War II ended and recalled the celebrating in the streets. She met Ingvald at a house party in a neighbor's home near where she grew up. It was love at first sight. They were married on September 28, 1947. They lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota until March, at which time they moved to a farm north of Oslo, Minnesota. After experiencing two floods they moved to the Bagley area and bought Ingvald's uncle's farm. While living there they attended St. Peter Lutheran Church and were very active in the life of the congregation. In 1963 they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Ione did volunteer work at various places. Ione was a skilled seamstress and sewed many garments for grandchildren. Ione loved her garden and flowers and enjoyed canning the produce from her garden. In her later years she enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid quilter. She constructed many beautiful quilts and hand stitched them all. She also painted many beautiful pictures. One of her ministries was cooking at various area camps. Her lefse was notorious and in high demand and sold out at all the craft sales. On Sunday, August 5, 2018, Ione passed away at Essentia Health in Fargo, North Dakota and went to her heavenly home at the age of 93 years.She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda (David) Johnson of Bagley, MN, and Faye (Philip) Quam of McIntosh, MN. Grandchildren, Matthew (Jinan) Johnson, Tammy (Josh) Johnson of Bagley, MN, Esther (Tom) Johannessohn of Lengby, MN, Andrew (Jessica) Quam, Peter (Singne) Quam of McIntosh, MN, Heidi (David) Hafvenstien of Benson, MN, Shannon (Matthew) Albrecht, Laura (Tim) Johnson of Fosston, MN; 29 great grandchildren; one brother, Russell (Gloria) Sander of Fosston; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Gulleckson of Fertile, MN, and Marilyn Anderson of Fosston. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ingvald; parents, Carl and Ethel Sander; brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Sander; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Margart) Anderson, Alf (Ardell), Robert, Norman (Helen), and Erling Anderson and Roland Gulleckson.Sisters-in-law, Agnes (Chester) Potter, Thelma (Larry) Hanson, Mabel Anderson, Norma (Donald) Brown, and Esther Carlson; grandson, Daniel Johnson; great grandson, Samuel Johnson; and niece Mechele Flodstrom.
