Hilmer "Clipper" Carlson, age 86, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday (July 5th) at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (July 11th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Pastor Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the McIntosh VFW Post #6891 of McIntosh and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Hilmer Julian Carlson was born on July 4, 1923 in Winger, Minnesota to parents Rolf and Marie (Gjeldaker) Carlson. He grew up in Winger and graduated from McIntosh High School. He entered the United States Army Air Corps in February of 1943 and served as a flight engineer and top turret gunner during World War II, stationed in Italy. He received his honorable discharge in November of 1945.After returning home, Hilmer was married to Violet Engen. He owned and operated a barber shop in Mahnomen and then in McIntosh for many years. He sold the shop in McIntosh to Ron Roed in 1971. Clipper then worked at the potato house in McIntosh and also did some farming in the area. In 1978, he was married to Sylvia Aakus and they lived in Fosston. Sylvia passed away in 1984 and Clipper moved back to McIntosh where he has since resided. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, an active member and past Commander of the McIntosh V.F.W. Post #6891 and a member of the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Violet and Sylvia; daughter, Diana; one sister, Nella; and four brothers, Carl, Arnold, Marvel and Bill.
