Hilda Swenson

Hilda Swenson, age 83, of rural Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (June 25th) as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident north of Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (July 1st) at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh with the Rev. Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday (June 30th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Hilda Orvilla Finseth was born on September 16, 1924 in Trail, Minnesota to parents Julian and Elizabeth (Christianson) Finseth. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed that faith on October 17, 1937. She attended the Lindsay School in Hill River Township and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1942.Hilda was united in marriage to Lloyd Swenson on September 9, 1944 in Gonvick, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived on Lloyd's family's home farm north of Fosston. Lloyd passed away as a young man on November 5, 1957. Following his death, Hilda continued to live and raise her family on the farm. Hilda worked at the Johnson Rest Home in Fosston, the Fosston Municipal Hospital and Nursing Home (later known as First Care) and spent her remaining years working for First Care Medical Services. Hilda was named Employee of the Year in 1989 and retired from First Care in 1995 after 32 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Trail where she was active in Ladies Aide. She enjoyed embroidering, reading and spending time outdoors walking and gardening. She always had the coffee pot on for visiting family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Hilda passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from injuries she received in an automobile accident north of Fosston at the age of 83 years.Survivors include three children, Larry (Mary) Swenson of Bemidji, MN, Stephany Skala of Fosston, and Dean Swenson of Fosston; six grandchildren, David Swenson of Beverly Hills, MI, Aaron Swenson of Bemidji, MN, Daniel Swenson of Bemidji, MN, Jeffrey Hopke of Pine Lake, MN, Alexina Hruby of Fargo, ND, and Cassidy Swenson of Oklee, MN; one brother, Darrell Finseth of Fosston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandson, Benjamin; brothers, Clarence and Laurie; and one sister, Elvie Wiberg.Honorary Pallbearers will be Leslie Finseth, Rudy Finseth, Sidney Finseth, Randy Finseth, Arnold Syverson, Ordell Langseth, Wayne Bakke, and Howard Flateland.Active Pallbearers will be David Swenson, Aaron Swenson, Daniel Swenson, Jeffrey Hopke, Raymond Sundrud, and Curt Swenson.
