Helen Poppler, age 93, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 23rd, at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, MN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd, at the United Methodist Church in Fosston with the Rev. Michelle Miller officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston, at a later date. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday (February 2nd) at the church. Helen Ardith Nelson was born on November 10, 1924 in Norman County, Lockhart Minnesota, to Albert and Ada {Clayton} Nelson. She was struck with polio at the age of 2 years, and this greatly affected her physical ability throughout her life more so in her later years of life. But this did not stop her from being as physically active as she could. Helen was married to Jesse Poppler on September 10, 1942. To this union daughter Leslie Ann Poppler was born October 14, 1953. Helen and Jesse lived in the Fosston area most of their married life. Helen worked as a telephone operator for the Garden Valley early in their marriage. She was a bookkeeper for her husband business for all the years that he was a contractor in the Fosston area. She also was employed at the Fosston Hospital for 10 years as a Medicare bookkeeper.Helen's greatest enjoyment was raising their daughter Leslie Ann, helping raise her two grandchildren Ryan and Jessica Handyside. She loved to knit, crochet and sew for her family, and the public. In her free time she took a lot of pride in helping maintain the beautiful yard around their home in Fosston. She also liked to voice her opinion in letters to the Editor of the Thirteen Towns. She is survived by her daughter Leslie Ann {Poppler} Handyside and husband John, grandchildren Ryan Handyside, wife Megan and great grandchildren Dustyn, Emily, Elijah, of Fosston, Jessica {Handyside} Eck, husband Nolan, and great grandson Arthur Eck Of Leonard MN. And many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Jesse, sisters Donna, and Elva.
