Helen Haugen, age 99, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Thursday (November 7th) at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (November 11th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Helen was born on February 7, 1914 in Wibaux, Montana to Mikkel and Geline (Johnson) Vraa and was baptized there.As a young child she moved with her parents and twin sister, Cora to a farm east of Winger, Minnesota. She attended country school in Sletten Township and McIntosh High School.She was united in marriage to Otto Haugen on August 7, 1932 at the parsonage in Fosston by Rev. Hildahl, and farmed near Winger. In 1941 they purchased a farm in Heier Township south of Fosston. In 1946 they sold, and bought a farm northeast of McIntosh.In November of 1962, she began working at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, planting flowers, also knitting and crocheting, and spending time with her family. She had a special place in her heart for her daughters-in-law, Grace, Norma, Dorothy, Janice and Debbie.She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, WELCA and the Martha Bible Study Group.Otto passed away on January 16, 1981. She continued living on the farm until the fall of 1997 when she moved into the Cottage Apartments.Helen passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine at the age of 99 years and nine monthsHelen is survived by two sons, Lowell (Janice) of Fosston and Orvis (Debbie) of Grygla, MN; daughter-in-law, Norma of Aurora, MN; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Cora and Howard Kiecker and Gladys and Clarence Tolness; two sons, Jerome and Melvin; and two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Haugen and Grace Francis; one grandson, Scott Haugen and one granddaughter, Sherri Pape.
