Helen Berntson

Helen Berntson, age 74, of rural Bagley, MN, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (April 19th) at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (April 25th) at the Lengby Baptist Church in Lengby, MN with the Rev. Rick Stapleton officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (April 24th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Online guestbook is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Helen Annette Solie was born on January 27, 1933 in Lengby, MN to Oscar and Ruth (Taflin) Solie. She attended grade school in Lengby and graduated from Fosston High School in 1951. She grew up attending the Lengby Baptist Church with her family, participating in all the activities the church offered. She accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young girl, was baptized and joined the church. It was there she met her future husband, Alvin Berntson. They were united in marriage on August 23, 1953. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Aurora, MN, where Alvin worked for the Hanna Mining Company. They returned to Alvin's home farm near Bagley in the late winter of 1954 where he farmed and Helen worked as secretary at the Magelssen Elementary School for 33 years. Together they were blessed with three sons: Terence, Ronald, and Mitchell.Helen was very active in her church and enjoyed attending Christian Women's meetings. At home she was an avid reader and liked tending her flowers and plants. She loved her grandchildren dearly and doted on them.Helen passed away peacefully at the First Care Nursing Home on Thursday, April 19, 2007 following a brief bout with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 74 years, two months and 23 days.She is preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Earl, loving husband Alvin, and oldest son Terence.She is survived by sons Mitchell of rural Bagley; Ronald (Joan) of rural Bagley; and four grandchildren: Serenity, Benjamin, Mary Helen and Jonathan. She is survived also by two sisters Leona (Eugene) Olson of Naples, FL; Mae (Daniel) Olson of Naples, FL; brother David Solie of Fosston, MN; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children.She was faithful, a caregiver, and always looked to the needs of others before her own. She will be missed by all who knew her.
