Hazel Jallen, age 86, from Pine River, MN passed away on Friday, March 16th at Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22nd at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, MN with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at the church cemetery. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements.Hazel Lorraine Evje was born on March 14, 1921 to parents Hans and Lena (Dunrud) Evje in Frazee, MN. Hans passed away in 1922, and Lena married Olaf Gelen in 1926. Hazel attended elementary school in Aure, MN.Hazel married Edwin Jallen in 1940 in Aure where they lived a short while, after which they moved to Gully, MN. They lived in McIntosh and Pine River, MN many years where Edwin worked as a meat cutter and Hazel worked as an LPN. Hazel earned her LPN Degree in 1972.Hazel loved making beautiful quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. After Edwin passed away in 1996, Hazel moved to Bemidji.While living in Bemidji, Hazel spent several months constructing a Victorian Style Doll House, and she made much of the furniture. This lovely doll house was outfitted with electricity to light up the delicate lamps and light fixtures. Hazel compiled a lovely cookbook which contained hundreds of delicious recipes she tested on her husband of over 50 years, and her family. This keepsake heirloom is treasured by all.On Friday, March 16, 2007 Hazel Jallen passed away at Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN at the age of 86 years.Survivors include three sons, Gary (Joan) Jallen of Mesa, AZ, David (Paulette) Jallen of Ozark, AL, and Timothy (Jeanette) Jallen of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Mary Beth Jallen of Scottsdale, and Susan Norquist of Glendale, AZ; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Louie (Vera) Gelen of Crookston, MN; one sister, Florence Evje of Faribault, MN; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; and one sister, Olga.
