Harry Dunrud was born on November 7, 1925 to Selmer and Hulda (Tverberg) Dunrud on the farm in rural Gully MN. Harry was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. Harry grew up on the farm north of Fosston and attended Willowside Country School through 8th grade. After completing school Harry remained at home with his parents to help with the farming and milking. Upon Selmers death in 1972 Harry became the third generation to own and operate the homestead farm. Harry was so kind to his animals and very aware if one of them was under the weather and needed a shot or some medication to make them better. He always struggled to sell his cattle for fear that someone would be mean to them. Harry continued to farm and milk cows until he lost his eyesight to Macular Degeneration and had to retire and rent the farm out. Harry sold the farm in 2016 ending the generational family ownership of the homestead farm after 132 years. Harry was the favorite uncle to all of his nieces and nephews who all begged to go for sleep overs at Grampa and Harrys. Harry would make peanut brittle, popcorn, root beer floats and stay up late with us watching the Sonia Hennie movies on the Red Owl Theater on TV and still get up very early the next morning to milk cows. Harry was a good cook and would bake bread often so we could have cream on bread with sugar. Harry moved into the Prairie Pines assisted living in 2009 and continued to cook for himself and bake bread. The staff loved the smell of fresh baked bread wafting from his room.
Harry is survived by his nieces and nephews, Marlo & Sharon Roland of Tucson Az, Anna Marie Anderson of Lewiston Id, Wesley & Susie Roland of Fosston, Harvey & Sandy Roland of Wahpeton ND, Harriet & Dave Erckenbrack of Frazee MN, Cathy & Chuck Castle of Pleasonton CA, Carolyn Lange of Badger MN, Valerie Dunrud of International Falls MN, Danny & Sissy Dunrud of Badger MN, Tom & Chris Dunrud of Staples MN, Beverly Nelson of Monticello MN, Virginia & Larry Siverson of Bemidji MN, Maxine Sorgaard of Fosston MN, Charles Algaard of Bemidji MN, and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents Selmer & Hulda Dunrud, sister Alice & Alf Roland, sister Adele & Jim Jasper, brother Kenneth & Verna Dunrud, Sister Opal & Earl Algaard, nephew David Algaard, niece Sandy Carlton, niece Julie Watson, nephew Mark Dunrud, niece Sue Ellen Dunrud, nephew Jim Jasper Jr., Dwight Lange, Cecil Nelson, Lloyd Anderson, Darlene Algaard, Dean Sorgaard. Blessed be his memory.
