Harriet Emerson, age 87, of Gully, MN passed away on Thursday, June 19th at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23rd at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Eden Township, rural Gully, MN with Rev. Tom Seaver officiating. Lunch and fellowship will be held after the funeral at Russell and Sheila Emerson's farm (Ray and Harriet Emerson's farmstead). Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston and for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at the church cemetery and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Agnes Harriet Haugan was born on August 10, 1920 to Halvor and Ingeborg (Ostby) Haugan in Hickory Township, north of Gully, MN. She attended country school through eighth grade, then went out to work as a hired girl for various families in the area- doing housework and taking care of their children. In the spring of 1939 Harriet met Raymond Emerson and they were married in September 1941. They lived in Eden Township, rural Gully and bought their own farm there in 1950. Harriet was a farm wife and in later years worked outside the home as well. She was a seamstress for Oklee Manufacturing Co. in Trail, MN and also worked in the laundry at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook for 15 years until she retired. Due to declining health Harriet entered Mac Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh in 2001 where she spent 6 1/2 years and her remaining months were spent at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston.Harriet enjoyed nature and the outdoors, her grandchildren, writing in her diaries and scrapbooks, her church and visiting with relatives and friends.On Thursday, June 19, 2008 Harriet Emerson passed away at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston at the age of 87 years.She is survived by two daughters, Rosalind (David) Coleman of St. Paul, MN and Ramona Emerson of Gully; three sons, Rodney (Cathy) Emerson of Albertville, MN, Ronald (Deb) Emerson of Bloomington, IN and Russell (Sheila) Emerson of West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Patrick Osmonson, Allison Emerson, Crystal Emerson, Heather Emerson and Isaac Emerson; three step grandchildren, Alyssa Scott, Michael Scott and Andrew Scott; three sisters, Olive Bergh of Trail, MN, Hazel (Clifton) Nyleen of Sutherlin, OR and Murriel (George) Nelson of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; one sister, Esther Strande; and two brothers-in-law, Harry Bergh and Sidney Strande.
