Guy Mathson

Guy Mathson, age 60, of Clearbrook, MN, passed away on Friday, November 5th, at Sanford Health Hospital in Bemidji, MN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook with the Rev. Mark Olson officiating. Interment will be in Clearwater Cemetery, rural Clearbrook. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday, November 14th, and for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Guy Matthew Mathson was born on September 18, 1961, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents Darryl and Arlene (Vad) Mathson. He grew up near Oklee, Minnesota and graduated from Oklee High School in 1979. After high school, Guy went to Dallas, Texas and worked construction.

Guy raised three children, Brent, Kasie, and Bailey, and the family lived in Clearbrook. In 1987, he started working for North Central Service of Clearbrook and later, Bemidji. He worked there for 32 years. Since 2019, he has worked for Castrejon Incorporated.

Guy liked ice fishing, golf, going to concerts, bowling with the kids, cooking, eating, his job, and rock n’ roll music. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his faithful companion, his dog, Brutus.

As written by Guy’s father, “Guy was a good son and good friend to his dad. Guy would come over to his dad’s every Sunday before going to work. He will be sadly missed.”

Survivors include his three children, Brent, Kasie, and Bailey, all of Clearbrook, MN; his father, Darryl Mathson of Oklee, MN; four grandchildren, Chasity, Malea, Tyler, and Alexis; one sister, Cindy (Mark) Nelson of Erskine, MN; two nieces, Amy (Chad) Sperling of Grand Forks, ND, and Krista (Andrew) Johnstad of Beltrami, MN; and nephew, Travis (Shannon) Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN; and his loyal dog of 12 years, Brutus “Puppy Chow” Mathson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene; son, Tyler; three infant siblings; and grandparents, John and Gertie (Langie) Mathson and Clifford and Inga (Geving) Vad.
