Greg Strand

Greg Strand, age 74, of Erskine, MN and McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday, December 29th, at McIntosh Senior Living. A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.

Greg Lane Strand was born on July 8, 1950 in Crookston, Minnesota. Greg grew up in Erskine, MN, graduated from Erskine High School in 1968. He held numerous jobs in the area before enlisting in the US Army in May of 1971. He served in Korea in the Demilitarized Zone. After his first tour of duty, he re-enlisted and served in Germany. After 6 years and 3 months of service to his country, he returned home and attended the University of North Dakota, receiving his degree in education. He took a job in Crownpoint, NM, teaching Math at the high school. He also coached junior high volleyball at the school for a few years. After teaching at the high school, he taught for two years at the Navajo Community College. retiring, he returned home to MN.

Greg was an avid collector of baseball memorabilia and was a huge MN Twins fan. He collected every Twins baseball card from the first Day the Twins existed to present day. Greg also had an envious collection of vinyl records and CD's from the 60's and 70's. His favorite pastime was reading. He read thousands of books preferring mysteries and spy novels. He shared his books with friends, often giving them a book report before giving them the book. He loved visiting with anybody and was a kind and generous soul. He would often bake krumkake, delivering to the local police force, fire department and numerous others. He would often take ice cream treats to the people whom he did business with as a thank you for their service. 

Greg is survived by his brother Jon (Kristine) Strand of Nisswa and Jeff (DeNae) Strand of Princeton, nieces Sara Nelson and Amy Strand, numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gehard and Lorraine Strand.
