Gordon Strand

Gordon Strand, age 78 of Fosston, MN passed away on Monday, October 28th at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 3:00 PM at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Jon Marx officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:30 PM at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team and the White Earth Honor Guard. Messages of condolence may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.Gordy was born on June 9, 1935 in Ulen, Minnesota to John and Pauline (Hollevoet) Strand. He grew up 14 miles south of Fosston and attended the Dwayne country school. He entered the United States Army in February of 1959 and received his honorable discharge in October of 1964. He was married to Marjorie Sleeth on November 25, 1961. They made their home across the road. Gordy worked many different jobs but mostly as a masonary construction worker and farmer. He had a love for the great outdoors. He had lots of different pets through the years and did a lot of hunting, trapping, and fishing. He also enjoyed going to auctions, restoring Model T's and Model A's or crafting something from old parts. He served on the Heier Township board for 40 years.Gordy passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 78 years.Gordy will be remembered by his wife, Margie; son, Gary Strand of Verndale, MN; three daughters, Rita Vacek of Frazee, MN, Sue Francis (Todd) of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Wanda Gilbertson of Fosston; nine grandchildren, Brent and Cassie Strand, Patrick Vacek, Derek, Ashley, Danielle, and Nathan Francis, Kayla and Kim Gilbertson; one great granddaughter, Sophie Francis; two brothers, John Strand of Cohasset, MN and Marlen Strand of Fosston; two sisters, Verna Ekeberg of Fosston and Ermma Siedschlag of Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brent; granddaughter, Karyna; three sisters, Opal, Helen, and Bernice; one brother, Palmer; and son-in-law, Chris Vacek.
