Gordon Peterson

Gordon Peterson, age 81, from Mentor, MN passed away on Wednesday, April 8th at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 14th at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral. All services are at the church. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine, MN is in charge of the arrangements. Gordon Lloyd Peterson was born on June 2, 1927 in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of David and Hulda (Enquist) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Gordon attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.He served in United States Marine Corps and returned to the Fergus Falls area. Gordon met Ruth Rostad and they were married on December 10, 1949. They had three sons, Gerald, Tom and Steve, and one daughter, Diane. Ruth passed away in November of 1990.Gordon was married to LaVone Mogen on May 9, 1992 and they made their home at Mentor, MN. This marriage added three step-daughters, Lyn, Judy and Cathie. Gordon worked for the Minnesota Department of Conservation as a refuge patrolman near Mille Lacs Lake. He later became a game warden (Conservation Officer) and served in Onamia before moving to Wheaton, MN. He retired in 1983 after nearly 30 years of employment with the Department of Natural Resources. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with friends and family. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and working in his wood shop and he spent many winters with his friends at Four Seasons RV Park in Brownsville, TX.On Wednesday, April 8, 2009 Gordon passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 81 years.Survivors include his wife, LaVone of Mentor; three sons, Gerald (Dorothy) of Brainerd, MN, Tom (Margaret) of Apple Valley, MN and Steve (Shari) of Brainerd; one daughter, Diane (Paul) Lande of Wheaton; two step-daughters, Lyn Sebenaler of Thief River Falls, MN and Cathie (Scott) Gagner of Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth; one step-daughter, Judy Wilkins; one grandchild; and three brothers, Marvin, Al and Byron.
