Gladys Olson

Gladys Olson, age 70, of McIntosh, MN passed away on Saturday, October 3rd at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 11:00 AM at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Pastor Dale Mellgren and Pastor W. E. Danielson officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center. Interment will be at the church cemetery in McIntosh, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials can be directed to the Gideons.Gladys Helene Ostenaa was born on May 28, 1939 in McIntosh, MN the daughter of Gunnie & Signe (Ramsey) Ostenaa.   Gladys was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh as a young girl.  Gladys graduated from McIntosh High School in 1958.  She worked at Pioneer Memorial Home after graduation and later moved to Minneapolis where she continued her studies at Lutheran Bible Institute for 2 years and Austin Community College for 2 years where in 1987 she received her Associates Degree.  She continued her work as a personal care attendant for 14 years doing private duty care and working at Mt. Sinai Hospital before moving back to McIntosh.  While residing in the area she worked in Bemidji at Gold Pine Home and also at Poplar Meadows Assisted Living in McIntosh.  She also continued to work privately doing home health care.  Because of her love of God and her faith she was involved with World Mission Prayer League as a missionary in Afghanistan from 1978-1981.  She was united in marriage to Lester Olson on October 25, 1997 at Mt. Carmel Church in McIntosh.  Gladys enjoyed sewing, gardening, camping and taking care of her nieces and nephews whom she always referred to as her "little darlings". Gladys passed away on October 3, 2009 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 5 days.  Survivors include her husband Lester of McIntosh, three brothers: Stanley (Ruby); Roy (Mary); and Gordie (Cindy) all of McIntosh.  Brother and Sister-in-Law Floyd and Gerry Olson of Brooklyn Park, MN; Nieces and Nephews:  Shawn (Tamera) Ostenaa; Tanya (Erik) Hamre; Nick (April) Ostenaa; Jackie (Cody) Huschle. Seven great nieces and nephews also survive. Those who preceeded her in death were her parents; two brothers, Philip & Norman and a brother and sister-in-law, Lyman & Martha Olson.
