Gladys Mattson, age 90, of Bemidji, MN and formerly from Gully, MN, passed away on Sunday, May 6th at The Garden Place Assisted Living in Bagley, MN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10th at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, MN with Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, Gully. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.comGladys Mary Calhoon was born on September 1, 1921 to Joseph and Ella (Upheber) Calhoon in Gully, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully. She attended school in Gully and Gonvick, MN. Gladys was united in marriage to Clifford Walton Mattson on June 26, 1939. They lived for a time in Duluth in 1943. Cliff enlisted in the navy in 1943 so they were in Sand, Idaho during his boot camp. In 1944 when he was overseas she went to Minneapolis where she worked at Honeywell until the war ended. They lived in Bemidji, MN until 1948 and then moved back to Gully. Gladys received appointment to postal clerk in 1957 and continued until retirement in 1982 after 25 years of service. She also served as interim postmaster for a time in Trail, MN. She was a member of Lund Lutheran Church, also serving as their financial secretary for 7 years. In 1986 they moved to Bemidji where they belonged to First Lutheran Church. After Cliff passed away in 2008 she lived for a short time at Poplar Meadows, an assisted living facility in McIntosh, MN. In 2009 she moved into The Garden Place, an assisted living facility in Bagley, MN and lived there until she passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the age of 90 years.Gladys was very devoted to her family and home. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, hand work, listening to music, dancing, and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by daughters, Faye (Terry) Sorenson of Mentor, MN, Beth (Randy) Bakke of Moorhead, MN and Bonnie (Brad) Eck of Gonvick, MN; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Louella Moen of Fairmont, MN and Violet Thompson of Tuscon, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Ronald Bruce; brothers, Orville and Joeseph; sister, Doris (Frank) Hildahl; brothers-in-law, Leonard Moen, Herb Mattson and Frank Hildahl; and sisters-in-law, Helen (Herb) Mattson, and Nell (Joesph) Calhoon.
