Gladys English

Gladys English, age 87, of Mentor, MN, passed away on Monday (August 8th) at her home. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (August 11th) at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Pastor Bill Reck officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Gladys Mary Utley was born on January 29, 1924 to John and Vivian (Guptil) Utley in Bemidji, Minnesota where she grew up and graduated high school.She was united in marriage to Donald English on January 8, 1946 in Bemidji. They lived in many communities over the years while Don worked in school administration. They retired in Mentor. Don passed away in 1997.Gladys enjoyed playing cards with her friends, volunteering her time with Tri-Valley, and carpentry work. She loved animals, especially her dogs Oscar and Comet. Gladys had a wonderful sense of humor and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.Gladys passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at her home in Mentor at the age of 87 years.She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Mary (Dan) Koning of Hastings, MI, and Becky (Dan) Rantanen of Middle River, MN; two sons, Paul (Karen Cole) English of Greenbush, MN, and Pat (Mary Jo Olson) English of Mentor, MN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and other relatives, friends, and her dog Oscar.She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Don.
