George Farrell

George Farrell, age 70, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday (October 9th) at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 14th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Mentor, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (October 13th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.George Rolland Farrell, Jr. was born on December 19, 1938 in Badger Township, rural Erskine, Minnesota to parents George Sr. and Sadie (Dukek) Farrell. He grew up on the family farm in Badger Township and attended rural school in that area. George worked on various farms in the area including near Roseau and Crookston. He then began work in road construction.George was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginnie" Moen on March 10, 1962 in Erskine. Following their marriage, they lived in Crookston for a brief time before returning to Erskine. George worked for many road construction companies and on numerous projects throughout the area. He retired in 2003 after 40 plus years in road construction. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Bauer Farm.He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine and served as a volunteer firefighter in Erskine for 20 plus years. George always made time to mow in the summer and snowplow in the winter for his neighbors. He loved gardening, mowing, picking up leaves, John Deere and his dogs and horses. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.George passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston at the age of 70 years.Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Virginia "Ginnie" of Erskine; four children, Brenda (Larry) Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN, Joe (Carol) Farrell of Big Lake, MN, Wade (Tina) Farrell of Erskine, and Jon (Jill) Farrell of Hutchinson, MN; grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Michael, Amanda, Brittany, Tiffany, Hailey, and Colton; and great grandchildren, Alexys and Jordyn; brothers-in-law, Al Moen of Maple Grove, MN and Francis Abrams of Yakima, WA; sisters-in-law, Linda (Tom) Siebenlar of Shakopee, MN and Pat (Gary) Berget of Bemidji, MN; and several nieces and nephews; Also surviving is his beloved dog, Shiloh (his nurse).He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Leona Barrow, Delma Abrams and Muriel Berglund.
