Gary Storrusten

Gary Storrusten, age 57, of Fosston, MN and former owner of Gary's Clothing in Fosston, passed away on Friday (July 27th) at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday (August 1st) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday (July 31st) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and an online guestbook is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Gary Ernest Storrusten was born on May 14, 1950 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Gil and Donna (Whittmyer) Storrusten. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School with the class of 1968. Following high school, Gary attended Bemidji State University. He worked with his father at Gil and Gary's Plumbing and Heating, and Northern Milk Products in Fosston. Gary purchased Bill's Clothing in Fosston in 1995 and, at that time, changed the name of the store to Gary's Clothing. He owned and operated the business until his retirement in July of 2007.He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Fosston Sportsman's Club, Fosston Lion's Club, Fosston Community Club and the Northwest Buyer's Association. Gary enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed visiting with his many friends and faithful customers.Gary passed away on Friday, July 27, 2007 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 57 years.Survivors include his parents, Gil and Donna Storrusten of Fosston; two sisters, Susan Skunes and her husband, Dave of Fosston, and Dianne Olander and her husband, Joel of Bloomington, MN; uncle, Harvey Whittmyer of Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews, Kateri and Lee Skunes, Jamie Olander and Nicole Storrusten; one sister-in-law, Sharon Storrusten of Fosston and numerous cousins.He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas; infant brother, Wayne; infant sister, Catherine; and one nephew, Joey Olander.
