Galen Swanson

Galen Swanson, age 64, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday (November 17th) at Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (November 23rd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with the Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Flag presentation will be provided by the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.comGalen Lee Swanson was born on April 2, 1947 in Fosston, Minnesota to Stanley and Dora (Carlson) Swanson. Galen attended Fosston High School. Following high school, Galen entered the United States Army in January of 1968 and received his honorable discharge in November of 1977. Galen started work for Boeing in 1978 in Washington which he did for 12 years. Galen was married and with the marriage two children, Tavin and Vernon Swanson were born. Galen enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards and most of all visiting friends and family with his scooter. Galen passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota at the age of 64 years, seven months and 15 days. Survivors include his mother, Dora Myhrum of Fosston; daughter, Tavin Swanson; son, Vernon Swanson; his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Swanson; step father, Arvil Myhrum; and his sister, Sharon Kappedal.Honorary Pallbearers are Shawn Kappedal, Jeremy Kappedal, David Aspen, Dewey Tangen and Jerry Johnson.
