Frances Torgerson

Frances Torgerson, age 87, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday (September 11th) at McIntosh Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (September 16th) at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Pastor Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (September 15th) and for one hour prior to the service on Friday, all at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Frances Lorraine Torgerson was born on July 17, 1924 in McIntosh, Minnesota to parents Carl and Alpha (Strom) Torgerson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh. She graduated from McIntosh High School, received her Bachelor's of Science Degree from Bemidji State University in 1945 and her Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Wisconsin in 1955.She taught Mathematics in Lester Prairie, Deer River, Oklee, Morris, and Benson, Minnesota, Davenport, Iowa and at Flint Junior College in Flint, Michigan. She also was a Instructor of Mathematics at North Dakota State University in Fargo, Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, and Assistant Professor at Mankato State University. In 1993, she retired to her home in McIntosh. Frances had traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, and Africa. She entered McIntosh Senior Living in January of 2009. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh, the Sons of Norway, Christian Women's, and Church Circles. Frances passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at McIntosh Senior Living at the age of 87 years, one month and 25 days.Survivors include three sisters, Irene Ferden of Fosston, Joyce (Joseph) Wahlin of Superior, MT, and Marilyn Weeding of Minneapolis, MN; nieces and nephews, Maurice Ferden, Pamela Ferden Hagen, Joni Ferden Precht, Denise Wahlin Fiskum, Naomi Wahlin Wallace, Timothy Wahlin, Jonathan Wahlin, and Mark Weeding; and numerous cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wallace Torgerson; nephew, Bruce Ferden; and niece, Lisa Weeding.
